Dental Treatment
Dental treatment is a variety of procedures a dentist performs to diagnose and treat oral disease, restore function and improve the appearance of teeth. Most dental treatments are performed by a dentist, but some are performed by other members of the dental team (eg, dental hygienists and technicians). Dental treatment is an important part of overall health care. Regular dental exams and cleanings can help detect early problems and prevent them from worsening or becoming more difficult to treat.교대역치과
Preventative dental treatment includes regular checkups, dental cleanings and x-rays. It also includes fluoride treatments, which can strengthen teeth and reduce tooth decay. In addition, dentists often recommend sealants, which are liquid plastics that are painted into the pits and grooves of teeth like nail polish, to further prevent tooth decay.
Diagnostic dental treatment includes a complete examination of the teeth, gums and mouth. This usually involves taking a clinical history, including past and present symptoms, and performing a visual and tactile exam. Dentists may also recommend a radiograph of the mouth to identify cavities, bone loss and other abnormalities. Other diagnostic tools include a thermometer to measure the temperature of the mouth, and an otoscope to examine the throat and tongue for signs of disease.주걱턱교정
Most dental treatment is not invasive, but some patients may need sedation or other pain control during a procedure. Dentists can use nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, to ease anxiety during treatment. Oral analgesics can also be used to relieve mild to moderate pain during a dental procedure, and are available at most pharmacies. In some cases, a dentist will prescribe stronger pain medications for a patient who needs them.
The most common dental procedures are repairs and restorations to teeth that have already been damaged by tooth decay or trauma. These can include fillings, root canal therapy and crowns. Some cosmetic dental treatments are also considered preventative, such as teeth whitening and veneers.
If a cavity or crack extends deep into the tooth, bacteria can get to the pulp inside the tooth, which can become inflamed and painful. During root canal treatment, your dentist removes the affected pulp tissue, cleans and disinfects the area, then fills and seals the space. Your dentist may use a material such as ceramic, porcelain or composite resin. A filling is a simple way to repair minor damage, while a crown replaces the entire outer surface of a damaged tooth.
If you have a toothache, or if it has been more than six months since your last dental checkup, schedule an appointment right away. Delaying a visit to your dentist can lead to more serious oral (and general) health issues down the road, and can also be expensive if you have dental insurance.
